Kavi Singh is a film director residing in Beverly Shores. He is best known for his works Amidst Infinity and 120 KM. He is portrayed by Avan Jogia.
Kavi grew up in Toronto, Ontario as one of three siblings born to immigrant parents. When he was four, he caught an infection which caused him to go deaf but his parents, not wanting to raise a deaf child, made him get a cochlear implant and often pretended that his disability didn’t exist. Kavi, however, didn’t have the same luxury as his parents. Their refusal to acknowledge that he sometimes needed more help often did him more harm than good. In high school, he began to rebel against them, refusing to wear the processor that activated his implant and taking sign language classes. That was where he met his first group of Deaf friends and through them, how he gained an interest in filmmaking.
The first few films he made, towards the end of high school, were all silent films. He wanted people to experience the world the way he did. After graduating from high school, he moved to Washington, D.C. to study at Gallaudet University. There, he majored in Deaf Studies to get a sense of the community his parents had deprived him of as a child. Once he had finished his degree, he reunited with his older sister in Beverly Shores, where she was living after starting a career as an actress. He lived with her for his first few years there before he decided to go off on his own and give his sister her space back. As he built his name and reputation within the directing sphere, his films started to get bigger and bigger but he always maintained their eccentricity, continuing his signature silent films but branching out into different genres whenever he found a script that caught his eye.
When it comes to his craft, Kavi firmly believes that the sky’s the limit. He often likes to push back when he’s told ‘no’ and sometimes needs to be reigned in if an idea is taking him too far. His erratic directorial style bleeds into his everyday behaviour and he can often be impatient and come off as defiant, though it’s usually accompanied by a playful demeanour. Just like with his creativity, he finds a level of enjoyance in pushing back against authority, whether it’s in his best interests or not. Despite this, he never intends for his actions to be malicious and is quick to apologize if he crosses a line and hurts someone. Both of these aspects of himself stem from his parents’ treatment of his disability and he never wants to cause another person to feel the way his parents did.
