Season Synopsis[]
The first season introduces viewers to four close-knit friends: Jessica, Monica, Nicole, and Amanda, all navigating the ups and downs of motherhood, careers, and friendships. Jessica struggles to balance her demanding job and raising her daughter, Brittany, with support from her friends. Monica takes her role as a “supermom” seriously, constantly organising events and aiming for perfection in both her personal and public life. Nicole often clashes with Monica’s overachieving nature but brings a calming and humorous energy to the group. Amanda, meanwhile, keeps life interesting with her spontaneous decisions and love for trying new things.
In the second season, the dynamic between the friends deepens as they face new parenting dilemmas and personal challenges. Jessica’s work-life balance is tested when she receives a promotion that demands more of her time. Monica campaigns for the PTA president position, which leads to hilarious rivalries with other overly competitive moms at school. Meanwhile, Nicole and her husband’s, Greg, relaxed parenting style is put to the test as her son Johnny’s behaviour grows increasingly mischievous. Amanda decides to pursue a new business idea, which involves dragging her friends into her unpredictable projects.
In the third season, there are romantic developments. Amanda meets someone new - Mark, a laid-back musician who unexpectedly sweeps her off her feet. Their budding relationship blooms over the season, adding a new layer of excitement to Amanda’s life, while her friends both tease and support her. Meanwhile, Jessica continues to juggle her demanding job and being a mother to Brittany, now 10 and becoming much more independent. Monica, still the ambitious “supermom” and PTA president, begins to feel cracks in her picture-perfect life, especially when her husband, David, becomes more absent due to work. On the flip side, Nicole and her Greg deal with their son Johnny (now 11), whose mischievous behaviour escalates as he starts testing boundaries more frequently.
Season four brings major life changes for the friends. The big surprise this season is Monica discovering that she’s pregnant. Used to being in control, Monica’s pregnancy sends her into a whirlwind of stress and excitement as she prepares for the arrival of a new baby while still looking out for Chloe (12) and Eddie (10). Monica has to learn how to embrace the chaos, relying on her friends to help her through. As for the others, Amanda contemplates whether her relationship with Mark is serious enough to consider settling down. She struggles with the idea of commitment and looks to her friends for advice. Jessica makes a big decision, choosing to scale back her career so she can spend more time with Brittany. Nicole and Greg are thrown off when Johnny’s behaviour takes a new turn, he’s suddenly more focused on impressing girls than causing mischief and must learn to navigate his first crushes.
In the fifth season, Amanda and Mark’s relationship takes a serious turn when Mark proposes, but Amanda feels torn about settling down. Her friends rally around her as she grapples with the idea of commitment, unsure whether marriage is what she truly wants. Meanwhile, Monica gives birth to a baby girl, Emma, adding more chaos to her already hectic life. However, the strain between Monica and David grows as his work keeps him distant. Jessica’s decision to scale back her career leaves her feeling the financial pinch, as she struggles to support Brittany without the same income level. Nicole finds herself in uncharted territory as Johnny starts dating, forcing her and Greg to navigate the challenges of raising a teenager and wondering how (or if) they should enforce structure and discipline.
In season six, Amanda and Mark break off their engagement amicably, realising they want different things in life. Although Amanda soon discovers she is unexpectedly pregnant with his baby, leaving her to navigate her feelings for him and the prospect of becoming a mother. Meanwhile, Monica officially separates from David and begins rebuilding her life as a single mother of three, leaving how to balance work, parenting, and her events. Jessica takes on freelance work to make ends meet, and during this time, she starts dating, much to the disapproval of Brittany. Nicole and Greg adapt to Johnny’s teenage years, finding themselves increasingly involved in his social life while maintaining their laid-back parenting approach.
In season seven, Amanda successfully gives birth to twins (Matthew & Zachary), embarking on the challengingly rewarding journey of motherhood for the first time. Although she and Mark have separated, he is in the picture, working through their co-parenting arrangement. Jessica’s dating life is chaotic yet hopeful, despite Brittany expressing her skepticism about all her mom’s choices. Meanwhile, Monica faces the struggles of managing a busy household with her three children, including the challenges of balancing Emma’s needs over Chloe and Eddie’s demands, all while trying to maintain her career. The Taylor household faces the death of Greg’s father; deeply affects Nicole and Greg, forcing them to confront their grief while trying to support their son, Johnny, who is struggling to understand the concept of loss. The emotional turmoil brings Nicole and Greg closer.
In season eight, Amanda grapples with the demands of motherhood as she struggles to maintain her sense of self. Her emotions are further complicated when she learns that Mark has started dating again, causing her to question their co-parenting arrangement. Jessica’s dating life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Lance, who understands her challenges as a mother. In a surprising twist, David returns to town after quitting his job, hoping to rekindle his relationship with Monica, who is torn between their past and her newfound independence as a single mother. As for the Taylors, Greg still has difficulty processing his father’s death, leaving Nicole to take on the emotional burden as she tries to support him. As Greg’s struggle deepens, Nicole discovers that Johnny is failing in school, adding pressure to their already strained dynamic.
In season nine, Nicole finds herself unable to cope with the two men in her life as Greg’s mental state worsens and Johnny’s academic troubles continue. Nicole starts to distance herself, making impulsive decisions, one of which is a brief, volatile affair a local barista, Dylan. Meanwhile, Monica and David slowly rekindle their relationship, much to the surprise of their children. Chloe and Eddie are torn between their wants and needs, unsure if this reconciliation will last or if it’s another temporary fix. Jessica and Lance’s relationship grows stronger, but their stability is shaken when Brittany’s birth father, Kyle, unexpectedly reenters their lives, causing tension between Jessica’s past and present. Amanda and Mark can’t seem to co-parent effectively, particularly with Amanda unable to cope with Mark’s string of dates. Their frequent bickering reveals Amanda’s unresolved feelings, causing her to question whether she truly wants to move on or if she secretly wishes they hadn’t broken off the engagement.
In the final season, Jessica faces a pivotal decision: will she choose her past with Kyle, her present with Lance, or focus on her own needs and desires? Brittany, caught in the middle, wishes for her mother’s happiness, no matter the cost. Meanwhile, the Scott family grapples with the question of whether they are better together or apart, as Monica and David navigate the complexities of their renewed relationship while Chloe and Eddie come to terms with their parents’ choices. Amanda wrestles with her feelings about co-parenting with Mark; she finds herself torn between the desire for independence and lingering romantic hopes for them to reunite. As Nicole confronts the fallout from her affair with Dylan, she must decide whether to come clean to Greg, who finally seeks help for his emotional struggles. Johnny, determined to turn his academic failures around, seeks support from unexpected sources.
